Have you considered networking at the top?
Networking is not like it was a few decades when people gathered at meetings and parties, handing out enough business cards to create just one new contact for the rolodex.
Today, think of going straight to the top to find the business advice you need and then share it freely!
Who’s at the top in your field? Who’s on the edge of the newest stuff in your area of interest?
Today, networking is all about engagement, and engaging means giving people the opportunity to interact with you or your business in a way that’s meaningful to both parties.
When’s the last time you held an informational coffee meeting for those with whom you’d want to work — something that benefited your clients or referral sources without their giving you anything in exchange?
I work in yoga therapy, a line of yoga that treats people as clients instead of students, providing them with tools to recover and heal from whatever it is in mind or body that is troubling them. My colleagues gathered last week at a medical symposium. Dr. Dean Ornish, a leader in the latest prevention research, champions yoga for healing and has been able to get it covered by insurance; his program is hosted at the most advanced medical centers around the nation. Organizers of the symposium thought it would be wonderful to have Dr. Ornish as a presenter. So guess what: they asked! And guess what: he did it. For free!
Who is YOUR field’s Dr. Ornish? Who is a local leader in your industry? Are you willing to ask them to share what they know at a meeting or gathering? Perhaps they’ll write an article for your newsletter. Or provide your colleagues or clients with information about something really new that’s on the horizon.
You’ll be nourishing your network by adding something very valuable. And you’ll remind others of things like success, progress, of creativity… of WINNING!
Go straight to the top and you’ll be surprised at VALUE of what you can bring to YOUR NETWORK!
