Have you ever said a prayer for your business?
Probably a silly question, because I’m sure you have. There’s a good chance you wouldn’t be in the business you’re in without a lot of time spent in prayer over it first. Am I right? Before I ventured into this business, I spent a lot of time asking God for direction and seeking His plan for my work. Seeking His guidance is a critical step. I definitely felt His leading and saw His hand working as this idea began to take shape. But here’s a question for you.
Have you ever said a prayer for your business? Your workstation? Your office? Your clients? Your business partners?
It might be an easy thing to overlook, but there is a direct correlation to prayer and handling business affairs with grace and mercy. Think about it. If we just dive into the pile everyday without thoughtful supplication, where is our focus? We can get sidetracked by little things and take things more personally than they are intended, creating havoc. For me, if I’m not praying, it leads me into periods of stress, impatience and decreased productivity. Really, without prayer, we are an attack of the enemy waiting to happen.
So let me offer a simple, but powerful, suggestion to you. Start with one day… You pick! Set that day – or at least a portion of it – aside as the day you will pray. And then, pray. Don’t worry about the to-do list, the calls you need to make or the emails you need to return. Just tuck that stuff away for the time being. Pray over every aspect of your business. Start at the top and work your way down, or start with the simplest of items at your desk and work your way up. The order is up to you and your preferences, but please do pray.
Ask God to bless everything involved with your business: your clients, your support services, your supplies, your desk, even your work files.
You’ll be amazed at how much you can actually pray over. More importantly, you’ll begin to experience a deeper connection between you, your work, and God. You will probably begin to find that by starting your workday in prayer… you’ll be better focused and more productive. It goes against our wiring because we tend to believe that we need to work more to accomplish more. But, taking the time at the beginning of your day to pray over your work will not only refresh your spirit, it will refresh your outcomes.
